ersity.net/sessionPop.cfm?confid=157&proposalid=14547\nCAS, a world-leading
supplier of scientific information for 116 years, provided published infor
mation and white papers on COVID starting in early 2020. One outcome o
f this process was a new appreciation of the power of Machine Learning (ML)
technologies when used with trustworthy data sources, preferably optimized
for ML. An ML-optimized repository Proof of Concept project in early
2022 was a huge success, leading to a production project in late 2022. This
presentation/case study will show how CAS reinvented our data repositories
, optimizing tens of millions of documents for Machine Learning and Knowled
ge Graphs while retaining the trust in our quality. I will show:\n\n
How our repository strategy changed\n	\n
From on-premises human-centric to cloud-native machine-centric\n	\n	\n
Why the repository change was needed\n	\n
Scaling new analysis and knowledge discovery tools\n	\n	\n
Who performed the transformation\n	\n
Existing staff, retrained for AWS native development\n	\n	\n
When we choose custom or customized components over COTS solutions\n	\n
Data quality standards must be met\n	\n	\n
What savings (time and money) were realized\n	\n
Development (time to repository), operating costs\n	\n
\n\nLastly, I will discuss how the new repository supports our Data Scienti
sts and examples of how better data yields better results for our customers
